So do we have this all wrong? John Maxwell states Everything rises and falls on leadership, and at this moment in time our people entrusted in leadership roles are living the values that we need them to be as a society. Role Modelling is a key component of leadership and looking after the team is paramount, yet we see such disproportionate gaps between those at the top of the food chain, and those on the front line.
I used to work with a bloke called Zac about 13 years ago, who struggled to believe that we could pay someone a million dollars to run a company. I often wonder what Zac would say today.
Now I don’t begrudge anyone earning big dollars or losing any incentive to do so. But we, in Australia, are losing our competitive place in the world and forming a frontline class of employee that can be disengaged and cynical. Our gap in salary and focus on shareholder wealth adds to this.
Social conscience is needed t build trust. Can we do it. It all starts with each of us.
